I've witnessed my share of VC moments when it came to being taped. I remember once at Le'Cafe he literally chased this guy down the steps through the restaurant and out the front door. It was insane...Vinnie plowing through everyone waiting for the second set to get this guy. Someone told Vinnie that he was being recorded and he flipped...He ended up offering the guy 5 bucks for the tape(he was actually nice to the guy when he caught up to him...which isn't surprising if you've actually talked with VC. He was always so humble and nice when I would talk with him...Anyway,the messed up part was that this guy gave him a different tape....Personally,I think that he has calmed down quite a bit from the past...
There has to be a reason why he is the most sought after when it comes to bootlegs...

...Yeah, he was even funny about it back in '84 when he "ripped the roof of the joint w/ Tim Landers"...[i heard they found some audience members jaw-bones/remains still scattered around the place years after that clinic]...no, SERIOUSLY, guys .... [img]wink.gif[/img]

...u know, guys, thing is, i really don't think VC's playin now is a whole lot diff from his playing back in the late '70's; i really don't think that he's that much better technically or conceptually...he's ALWAYS played like that, guys...from the Zappa daze, to the infamous Tim Landers clinics, to today...i think these days, perhaps, that his playing is more "refined," controlled [-?!; you know what i mean], maybe; "sculpted," "tailored;" more mature; perhaps...but he was a MONSTER then, & he's still a MONSTER now...Vinnie's [always been] Vinnie...& that's NOT just MHO...

I think Vinnie may be protective of his "Vinnie" licks. A couple of friends of mine hang with Vinnie every so often and they say you have to be very careful of what you say to him. He can fly off the handle pretty easily. He hates to do clinics, which is why he doesn't do them unless forced, (then cancels them when they're scheduled!) and goes ape if people try to tape him in performance. It's also why he'll never do a drum video. The best we can hope for are snippets from live concert footage and whatever we can transcribe. I'm jealous of all you Californians who get to see him in clubs every so often. The last time I saw him was with Kimo Williams in Chicago.
